Adelaide's bedroom

Today I picked up this chair from the upholsterer.

It's a child's armchair.  It used to be in my mother-in-law's childhood bedroom. She gave it to us for Adelaide's room and I finally had it recovered this week.

Adelaide has two little single beds in her room. I like the idea of her having little friends for sleepovers.  When we moved house I had the curtains and bedheads made.  I ordered a few metres of the chair fabric, along with a few extra metres of the bed skirt fabric, in order to make matching whole cloth quilts for her beds.

That never eventuated, and I decided the fabric was best put to use recovering the armchair. There was fabric left over to have two little cushions made for the beds. I might get around to having a lampshade made in what's left.

Note the Casita night light on her side table.  Adelaide can't go to sleep without it on. The ballerina print is one of two that used to hang in my grandmother's house.  The second one is above Adelaide's bedside table.

The armchair is proving to be the perfect spot to nurse a doll or have a chat with her favourite BeanieBoo.

Looks beautiful Kristine, I'm sure Adelaide loves her room. I also like how it is girlie but will also suit her as a teenager/young adult. I hope we get a peek at your boys'rooms, as a mum of boys and one with a tween, I'd love some inspiration. Hope you are well.

What a gorgeous room Kris! It really is very pretty and quite serene. I think it will transition well to a teenagers bedroom too - the prints are graphic rather than 'pretty' and the colour palette is sophisticated, but it does suit a little girl well.

Yes, the intention was to choose a fabric that we could all live with for a decade or two. When we moved I brought three sets of curtains with me - master bedroom, study and sitting room. I agonise for so long over fabric choices, I can’t bear
to go through it too often. I still loved those 3 choices from our last house and am still happy to live with them. They’ve fitted in perfectly in the new house. Choosing fabrics is so overwhelming, I usually leave fabric showrooms with a headache.

Hi Engracia,

Doing the boys’ rooms was fun. They each got a colour theme, chocolate brown for our eldest, french navy for our second and grey/red for our youngest. I’ve kept their rooms fairly neutral with natural linen roman blinds. Each blind was trimmed
in either brown, blue or red trim to match in with their feature fabrics.

That's a lovely bedroom for Adelaide and at times, friends, love the curtain fabric and of course the new chair, how lovely to have a family piece passed on, revived and ready for another generation, love your smocking from previous blog entry, happy sewing Kristine, Lyn
